Soundwaves teams up with the Angel City Jazz Festival for the first time to host their exciting Young Artist Competition.
Four bands, with all players under 24, will each perform a 20 minute set. A panel of experts will choose the winning combo, who will receive $1500 and get to open for Azar Lawrence on the 5th at LACMA. One musician will also win a scholarship to the UCSD Jazz Camp.
Because there will be 80 minutes of music, this show will begin at 7 rather than the usual 7:30pm.
Oakland saxophonist Greenlief presents a set of free improvisation, joined by LA jazz stars Cathlene Pineda (piano) and Tina Raymond (drums).

Selected pairs will be featured on this free preview at Soundwaves.
